Despite increased revenue, greater growth in program expenses have increased Canada’s deficit to $2.7 billion.
The Department of Finance’s Fiscal Monitor reported that for April and May, the first two months of the 2013-14 fiscal year, Canada’s deficit rose from $1.8 billion for the same time last year. Revenues did increase, however, to $41.8 billion, with the main sources being personal income tax (1.5 per cent), corporate income tax (2.1 per cent), non-resident income tax (13.1 per cent) and Employment Insurance (EI) revenues (8.2 per cent).
CHICAGO – Prime Minister Stephen Harper today confirmed that Canada's military mission in Afghanistan will come to a firm and final end once the current training mission concludes on March 31, 2014. The Prime Minister made the announcement at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Summit in Chicago.
